About Us

In the 1920's Arthur Jones founded the firm in the little village of Ystradowen, with just a hand cart and a hand full of tool. These tools he made as an apprentice to W.J. Llewynne of Pontyclun. He asked the local farmers for work as a joiner - carpenter. The firm quickly grew and his sons learnt the building and joinery trade. Arthur Jones, soon became Arthur Jones and sons.

My Grandfather Glyn ( Arthur's son) embraced new technology, he bought a telephone, the first in the village. The next step was the move to the big town of Cowbridge. With World War 2, Arthur was left to run the firm as his sons went of the war, As a family we were lucky they all came back alive.

With Arthur retiring and the son's now running the company it was renamed Jones Brothers. With the post War boom in building, we built an amazing amount of houses for the local authority, over 150. Banks, hotels, public houses and part of the Royal Mint in LLantrisant.

But our most famous local land mark is the Cardiff and Cowbridge Television Masts. Terry Nation, science fiction writer from Cardiff who worked on the Dr Who series was one night on Cowbridge Common when he saw the Flashing red lights on the T. V. Mast and had inspiration for the Darleks, so would the Dr and the world have the Darleks if it wasn't for my firm.

In the 1970's we branch into builders merchant with the avent of the DIY age.

Time moves on to 1987 and Arthur's sons retire, Glyn's daughter and son-in-law Bryn now take over the buisness. Bryn's background is from another family run heating and lead work specalist background. I also join the firm from college.

Specialist skills in lime construction and restoration methods, plus traditional lead fabrication are all the skills we use today, with the guidance on knowledge of our older family members.

JB’s has had over 69 successful years of trading.
